Flex Lanes

A flex laneFlex lane questions are often missed on the written test. may be used during rush hours. The lanes may have double-dashed yellow lines to either side. Signals above the lanes show which lane is safe to travel. Some travel lanes are designed to arry traffic in one direction at certain times and in the opposite direction at other times. Before entering the lane, check to see which lanes can be used at that time. A green arrow means you can use the lane. A red X means you cannot use the lane.

A.M. PEAK

Flex lanes example on a.m. peak travel
  • 4 lanes eastbound
  • 1 center turn lane
  • 2 lanes westbound
  • Left turns restricted

OFF PEAK

Flex lanes example on off peak travel
  • Equal number of lanes in both directions
  • Left turns are not restricted

P.M. PEAK

Flex lanes p.m. peak lanes.
  • 4 lanes westbound
  • 1 center turn lane
  • 2 lanes eastbound
  • Left turns restricted
